Calophyllum
Botanical name: Calophyllum inophyllum. Common name: Tamanu
C
old expeller pressed, certified organic

Calophllum oil promotes the formation of healthy skin and growth of new tissue. It is anti neuralgic for nerve inflammation and pain as well as having anti infectious properties. It is therefore a great choice as a carrier oil in dilutions or blends for skin conditions such as Herpes, Shingles, burns or non healing wounds. It can also be applied to help resolve psoriasis, eczema and acne.

Our Calophyllum (Tamanu) oil is produced from the nut of the Calophyllum inophyllum tree, a type of evergreen found in the Polynesian Islands.

Oil of tamanu contains three basic classes of lipids, neutral lipids, glycolipids, and phospholipids. The oil also contains a unique fatty acid called calophyllic acid, and a novel antibiotic lactone and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent called calophyllolide. These and other components of tamanu oil, including anti-inflammatory coumarins, account for some of the oil’s beneficial activity.
