Jasminum sambac is a species of jasmine native to a small region in the eastern Himalayas, Bhutan and neighboring India. It is cultivated in many places, especially across much of South Asia. The flowers of this small, water loving evergreen shrub are strongest at night and harvested as buds during early morning in order to capture them at their peak to produce the most fragrant essential oil. These flowers with their exquisite fragrance are nocturnal, evidence of their truly Yin nature.

In classical Chinese medical terms, Jasmine essential oil nourishes water and clears fire. Its channel affinities are to the Kidney, Liver and Heart.

Jasmine nourishes Kidney Yin and Jing essence. It can help to clear deficient heat, night sweats and agitation. It promotes estrogen and is moisturizing and regenerative for skin. At the same time, its mucolytic nature breaks up and eliminates excess Yin Stasis.

Jasmine essential oil may be used to promote childbirth. It is a Uterine tonic and stimulant and is helpful to ease the stress of a prolonged labor (one drop on the tongue.)

This fabulous flower is also an aphrodisiac.

The aroma of Jasmine essential oil helps one to Connect to the divine, opens consciousness and assists meditation. Emotionally it lifts depression, self esteem, self image and inspires forgiveness and acceptance. It is also recommended for elders to foster acceptance of graceful aging.

Practitioners may consider application of Jasmine Sambac essential oil directly to Kidney 6 to open the Yin Qiao Mai and may be applied directly over the navel to stimulate the Pineal Gland.
