ZI HUA DI DING  紫花地丁
“Purple Flower Earth”
Herba Violae

Zi Hua Di Ding essential oil has an acrid, herbaceous aroma with smooth grape wine- like notes. Its color is opaque, almost black dark umber.

Upon deep inhalation the aroma seems to vibrate into the head and heart. At the same time, like a cool bubbling spring it brings water to the mouth.

Powerfully anti-biotic, anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic, applied topically, Zi Hua Di Ding effectively clears toxic heat, cools the blood, and reduces abscesses, swelling, fevers and bacterial infections. It addresses hot, toxic skin problems such as furuncles, lesions, erysipelas and abscesses of various kinds including intestinal.

Zi Hua Di Ding essential oil can help to disinfect and reduce the swelling of snake or insect bites when applied as a poultice over the infected area.

Other essential oils that may be combined to enhance the treatment of hot toxic type skin problems are: Pu Gong Ying (Taraxaci), Ye Ju Hua (Wild Chrysanthemum), and Jin Yin Hua (Lonicera).

Herba Violae has hepatoprotective properties and has been found to aid the treatment of inflammatory Liver imbalances such as hepatitis and damp heat jaundice. Pu Gong Ying (Taraxaci), Zhi Zi (Gardenia), Chuan Xin Lian (Andrographis) and Yin Chen Hao (Artemisea scoparia) essential oils also have these properties and may be combined as a blend for topical application over the Liver area.

Herba Violae essential oil helps to calm the irritability that is caused by high fever due to  bacterial infection. Adding a cooling, aromatic floral oil such as Zhi Zi Hua (Gardenia) or Jin Yin Hua (Lonicera) may enhance this effect. These can be used together as aromatherapy inhalation and application on heat clearing acupuncture points.
